In order for a face mask to be considered effective against air borne allergies (believe it or not, there are some pretty stubborn folks out there), it must effectively block at least some of the pollutants in the air. Currently, the scientific consensus is, "Face masks are moderately effective at reducing the transmission of COVID 19, and Oropharyngeal respiratory pathways." However, what type of mask should you get? Is the hand-crafted one your dad-in-law made just as effective as the one made by your favorite high fashion store? Well, read on to learn more.

The most popular mask currently being sold is the SSPP non-woven fabric face mask material. Product like this. While it may not be as widely known or talked about as other materials like foam, silicon and neoprene, it's a very effective method of controlling and containing airborne allergens. Originally developed by NASA, SSPP is a material which contains thousands of microscopic cross-section holes. These are designed to trap all of the allergens released by a person's breathing system - but that's not all. The holes also prevent irritants and toxins from entering the nasal passage.

If the SSPP non-woven fabric doesn't quite capture all of the pollutants, it can make them less sticky by forming what's called "sticker cells" which pull them apart. But to get the full benefits of SSPP, you need to use an entirely different face mask material. This is what makes the Flat Mask comes in handy. Flat masks work well because they keep your nasal passages open and clear - preventing stuff like pollen and smoke from entering your system.

As a result, you can significantly reduce your symptoms by simply changing your SSPP face mask into a good airtight version. To find the perfect fit, look for a filtration system that has two different parts - the nose clips and the face mask itself. Ideally, the nose clips should have been made out of stainless steel, as this will ensure that they stay on your face throughout the day. The face mask, meanwhile, should have some sort of back air circulation duct so that your airflow can escape smoothly along your throat.

A good filtration system should use multiple layers of high-grade SSPP face mask material. In addition to its primary job of capturing allergens, the SSPP used in these filters should be coated on several times with a special epoxy resin. By doing this, the SSPP prevents allergens and toxins from leaking out into your air. While this might sound like a lot of work, it pays off in spades - by keeping you safe from breathing allergen laden air.

Another popular choice is a covid-19 mask. Made from tough, wear resistant vinyl, covid-19 masks feature a side-strapping clip to keep them securely in place. The base is firm, with a slightly flexible band that lets you comfortably adjust to your shape. The band is also adjustable, which allows you to fit it around your chin or jaw as needed. A helpful side effect of the rigid base is that it reduces the tendency of your facial droplets to leak out of your mask into your breathing stream.

Segal brand masks are another common choice. Segal has been around long enough to know that their materials hold up over time. Their three layers are made of heavy-duty cotton, and each of them is covered by a durable, water-resistant seal tape. The soft fabric is covered in high-quality, breathable non-woven fabric. And because they have three layers, they provide maximum protection against allergens.

There are many more options available, depending on what you're trying to achieve. If you need to stop internal pollution before it gets to your lungs, choose a face mask that features a mesh inner liner. If your goal is to reduce odors while still keeping air flowing through your mask, consider a t-shirt mask. Segal and Covid are just a few of the manufacturers that provide masks that are suitable for any type of situation. Whether you need an easy, inexpensive way to improve your breath, or need to protect your lungs from allergens and irritants, a new mask is an excellent investment.
